Alumni Spotlight: Jacqueline Rogers
Our alumni spotlight, Jacqueline Rogers, has earned two degrees from National American University and is working on her third. In 2015, she earned her bachelor’s degree in business management, moving on to earn her master’s degree in management in 2019. Although she started a second master’s degree, she instead opted to earn her Doctor of Education (EdD) from NAU, with a specialization in Community College Leadership.
Jacqueline believes it’s never too late to further your dreams. At 72, she is the oldest student in her Doctor of Education cohort. Although retired from her teaching career in St. Louis, she has her eyes set on becoming a professor at a community college or 4-year college. “Education has always been one of my main priorities.”
HOW WAS YOUR EXPERIENCE STUDYING ONLINE?
I prefer online classes over the classroom. You have to be a little more disciplined – discipline yourself to do the work. Other than that, I think it’s a breeze. You’re able to pace yourself better.
WERE YOU ABLE TO CONNECT WITH YOUR CLASSMATES ONLINE?
I have one classmate who, together, we have gone through our bachelor’s and master’s programs. Now, we’re working on our EdD together. In my degree classes, we connected with our classmates and corresponded with each other. We always meet new people.
DO YOU HAVE A SPECIFIC MEMORY ABOUT YOUR TIME AT NAU?
My first graduation – how warm and welcoming everyone was. I didn’t feel like I was by myself; I felt like I belonged where I was. They definitely made me feel welcome. I had the opportunity to meet with classmates and teachers I had talked to on the phone but had never met. I still talk to them today. It’s like a family to me.
WOULD YOU RECOMMEND NAU TO OTHERS?
Study at NAU. My overall experience at NAU has been great. I love it – no complaints. I know at least two others who have gone online with NAU. I have recommended NAU to others anytime I get the chance.
“I just want to say, if you want to pursue a good education, National American University is the one. They have great faculty; you feel like you’re part of a family, and I think it’s a good choice – you’ll never regret it.” – Jacqueline
